As Summit County Executive, Russ Pry serves as the chief budgetary officer of county government, with an annual budget of over $570 million.

County departments under Pry’s authority include: administrative services, communications, community and economic development, environmental services, finance and budget, human resources, insurance and risk management, job and family services, law and the medical examiner.

Since being appointed to the position of County Executive, Russ Pry has focused a significant amount of efforts on protecting the local environment, the most noteworthy include:

  • Collaborating with the Northeast Ohio Four County Regional Planning and Development Organization to sponsor two riverbank clean-up events along the newly restored banks of the middle Cuyahoga River.
  • For the past two years, co-chaired the Lights Out Akron initiative as a way to encourage local businesses and citizens to conserve energy by turning off all nonessential lighting between the hours of  8 – 9 a.m. on Earth Day.  The main goal of this event is to encourage citizens to practice energy conservation habits on a daily basis.
  • Establishing, in cooperation with Summit County Council, a GOING GREEN Policy Task Force.  The GOING GREEN PTF is committed to adopting environmental awareness, education and incentive strategies that reduce the use of natural resources through energy efficiency, water conservation and sustainable land use that promote the highest quality of life for Summit County citizens.
  • Committing to constructing an environmentally friendly, LEED Certified Summit County Animal Control facility at 250 Opportunity Parkway in south Akron.
